Foods and Drinks to Avoid to Save Your Smile

The foods and drinks we put in our mouths play a much larger role in our overall oral health than what people may think. Certain foods and drinks can really cause an immeasurable amount of harm to your smile. Though some people may know what foods and drinks to avoid, others may be in the dark, continuously indulging in the foods and drinks that will, over time, ruin their smile. Being informed as to what to avoid is half the battle, and Dr. Montgomery as well as everyone at All Smiles Family Dental Care want to keep you up to date as much as possible in order to protect your smile.
Some of the most harmful things people can consume is carbonated beverages and sports drinks. These types of beverages can contain high amounts of sugar which eats away at your tooth’s enamel. Sodas and other carbonated beverages have tooth-eroding acids, like phosphoric and citric acids, all leading to the demise of your smile. Also, excessive alcohol consumption is bad for your smile, as it causes dehydration in your body. Because you body will not produce the acceptable amount of saliva, your teeth and gums are more at risk of decay and disease.
Some harmful foods you should avoid are dry fruits and candy. Some examples of dry fruit include raisins, dates, and prunes, all of which have high amounts of sugar and loiter in your mouth for a long time, even after you have eaten it. Also, things like potato chips, ice creams, and other splurges can all be harmful to your overall oral care. Should you wish to partake in these sweet, salty, and bubbly treats, enjoy in moderation and always remember to brush your teeth afterward.

Dr. Montgomery Caters to Even the Youngest Smiles with Children's Dentistry

The wonderful thing about children is that they’re carefree and easily made happy. Unfortunately, one of the things they can’t be lighthearted about is taking care of their teeth. At our office, we realize the importance of your child’s teeth, and we are ready and able to start your child off in the right direction. Dr. Montgomery understand that a dentist’s office may not necessarily your child’s favorite place in the world, which is why our knowledgeable team is ready to welcome them with open arms and friendly smiles.
Children’s dentistry is very important because it plays a crucial role in preventing dental problems before they arise, as well as sets up your child for success in the future. Common practices in children’s dentistry are dental sealants. Because a child’s tooth is more susceptible to cavities and decay, sealants grant protection by having a plastic covering painted in the grooves of the tooth to save from harm in the future. Sealants are primarily applied to the teeth toward the back of the mouth because the grooves are deeper than the other teeth, therefore more susceptible to deterioration.
Coinciding with sealants, fluoride treatments are also involved in children’s dentistry frequently. Fluoride plays a crucial role in preventing decay as well as acting as an agent for attracting other minerals, like Calcium and Phosphate, to build strong teeth. Granted, fluoride does not prevent cavities from emerging, but it may delay their arrival, giving your child a better chance to have beautiful, healthy teeth and a glorious smile.

Calm Your Fears with Sedation Dentistry

There are many fears and phobias in life, and you may think there is nothing you can do about it. Some people may conquer a fear by facing it head on, while others decide to live with it, and simply avoid whatever frightens them. A fear of the dentist is one of the most common fears, and dentists like Dr. Katie Montgomery understand your dental woes, and is able to offer sedation dentistry to her patients.
If you are afraid of the dentist, the most important thing you must do is let Dr. Montgomery know. She does not want you to be anxious or nervous during your appointment, and she wants you to feel as comfortable as possible. She will be able to prescribe an oral sedation which you take a few hours before your appointment begins. The oral sedation will help calm your nerves and anxieties, and you will be able to be responsive should Dr. Montgomery or someone else on our talented team should require something of you. As we perform your dental work, you are relaxed and have no fears!
One of the benefits of oral sedation is that you are able to take care of whatever dental work you need done. People with a fear of the dentist may avoid getting dental work done, even if they know it will benefit them in the long run. Knowing there is a solution to the fear is able to give people more of an opportunity to take care of what they need. If you have any questions on how Dr. Montgomery can help you with your dental fears with sedation dentistry, make an appointment and we will be more than happy to help!

Brighten Your Smile with Teeth Whitening

Everything in the universe goes through the process of aging. The stars in the sky and the smallest of living things all wear over time. Unfortunately, your teeth are not an exception to the rules. Many things can affect the brightness of our smile, like certain medications, tobacco use, and, a favorite for many, coffee. Thankfully, Dr. Montgomery as well as the All Smiles Family Dental Care team is here to restore your smile to its luminescent beginnings with teeth whitening.
There are two ways we can tackle your teeth whitening task. One way is to take advantage of our take-home Whiter Image whitening system. With that option, you will receive custom-made trays that fit your teeth exactly. You will be given some syringes filled with the whitening agent, with which you fill the trays. You wear them as you sleep, letting your teeth whiten as your body recharges during the night. This way, you will see beautiful results in a matter of weeks, ideal for those who appreciate a gradual change to their look.
If you want more of an instant result with your teeth whitening, we do offer in-office whitening. We will be able to sit down with you and see what you want your smile to look like. During that time, you will also be able to have any questions or concerns you may have answered. The entire whitening procedure is supervised by Dr. Montgomery, making sure everything goes perfectly. After a small amount of time, you’re left with a gorgeous smile!
You feel as though Dr. Montgomery and the All Smiles Family Dental team is able to help you brighten your smile with teeth whitening, feel free to call us any time, and we’ll be more than happy to help!

Dr. Montgomery Can Ease Your Pain with Root Canals

Regardless of what you may have heard, root canals get rid of your pain; they do not cause pain. An infected tooth not only causes an immense amount of pain, but can be expensive down the road if nothing is done. At All Smiles Family Dental Care, we want to make sure we take care of all of your dental needs, and Dr. Montgomery is able help you along that journey!
Having a root canal done not only helps in getting rid of your pain, but it also benefits your teeth. A root canal is performed when there is an infected or decayed tooth, and the decomposition has to be removed before it gets any worse. Dr. Montgomery begins your root canal by accessing the infected tooth, and removing the pulp. When the tooth is infected, it also infects the pulp of the tooth, causing it to exacerbate. Once the pulp of the tooth is removed, Dr. Montgomery will fill the tooth with a tooth-colored filling, and top it with a crown to prevent any further corruption. In the end, you’re left feeling refreshed and in better oral health!
When you leave your teeth infected, not only can your mouth get worse, but it can affect you in other areas of your body. By delaying getting a root canal, the bacteria infecting your teeth can enter your blood stream, possibly causing harm to the rest of your body. It’s better to take care of your oral issues sooner rather than later or it may get worse! If you’re wondering how Dr. Montgomery can help you by performing a root canal, contact our office and make an appointment!

Use Dental Benefits Before Time Is Up!

A lot of people don’t know that you actually save money in the long run when you take advantage of your dental insurance before the year ends. Though some insurance companies operate by a fiscal year, most of them abide the calendar year, meaning as soon as it strikes midnight on December 30, your benefits are long gone.

Unlike your cell phone minutes, your dental benefits do not roll over to the next year. You work hard to earn the benefits you have, accumulating possibly hundreds of dollars only to have it wasted. When you use your benefits before the year is up, you will be able to take advantage of your deductible before it resets. Also, it gives you the ability to use up your annual maximums. One of the more important reasons to take advantage of your dental benefits before the year ends is to take care of dental issues before it gets worse. What may appear to be a simple cavity or discomfort now could turn into something a lot more serious and expensive down the road.

If you are unsure about what your dental benefits may be or when they expire, ask your employer, or use the company handbook as a reference. Either way, being able to use your dental benefits before the year ends is beneficial for your money, and, more importantly, your teeth.
